Ohly are pleased to announce the opening of its’ new Yeast Extract plant in Harbin, China.  The official opening ceremony was held on Saturday 11th September with local authorities, customers and employees in attendance.

The plant has capacity to produce in excess of 15,000 tonnes of Yeast Extracts for the food and fermentation markets internationally and had an investment of approximately US$50million. 

 Stephen Catling, CEO of ABF Ingredients said ““this is a logical expansion to our Ohly Yeast Specialties business which gives us a global manufacturing footprint to complement our existing plants in Europe and theUSA.  We now have global supply chain capability for our customers around the world”

 The plant will produce a full range of Yeast Extract Specialties and is adjacent to its sister company, AB Mauri, who have completed capacity expansion in Bakers’ Yeast at the existing Acheng,Harbinsite.  The new factory is just one part of a substantial investment by ABF in theHeilongjiangprovince in North Eastern China which has also seen development from British Sugar and AB Agri.

 Last year Ohly opened a new application centre inShanghaiwhich works in close co-operation with the Research and Application centres inBoyceville,Wisconsin,USandHamburg,Germany.

 CEO Ohly, Robert Rouwenhorst said “the Yeast Extract market continues to grow, especially in the Asian region and we are now well placed to meet this demand more efficiently through both our technical support and manufacturing facilities”.
