X-SEED® consistency ensuring reproducible bioprocesses for starter cultures and probiotics
Process reproducibility is the cornerstone for any bioprocess and it is ultimately dependent on the consistency of raw materials. This is especially true for complex nitrogen sources, such as yeast extracts where even slight variations can lead to under- or over-supply of critical nutrients causing yield losses, longer production times, or even complete batch failures.
The results presented in this study clearly demonstrate the exceptional batch-to-batch consistency and functional reproducibility of Ohly’s X-SEED® yeast extracts for probiotic and starter culture applications. It includes:
- Analysis of over 100 X-SEED® batches shows minimal variability in protein content, nucleotide levels, product colour, and bioburden
- Growth assays confirm reproducible performance across batches with probiotic and starter culture strains
- Insights into how consistent yeast extract composition supports robust fermentation and consistent product quality
Normalized values of (L to R) total protein, total nucleotides, colour and bioburden from more than 100 independent batches
Data from analyses of X-SEED® KAT (n = 154 for total protein, n = 120 for colour, and n = 156 for bioburden) and X-SEED® Nucleo Advanced (n = 100 for total nucleotides) were used to assess parameter consistency. All data points were normalized to the median of their respective datasets, except for bioburden, which was normalized to the upper specification limit. Dashed lines indicate the normalized specification limits.
