Ohly announces modernisation and expansion plans

24/01/2024

Since announcing our ambition to operate a carbon-neutral production site in Hamburg, Germany by 2030 (scopes 1 + 2) and sharing our decarbonisation roadmap, we have implemented more carbon-saving activities, switched to 100% renewable electricity and invested in more efficient manufacturing processes.

In 2022 we announced the construction of our first on-site spray drying tower in Hamburg, which will strengthen our supply reliability, while reducing miles travelled by our products during processing. The new spray drying tower will start operating in 2024.

Now we are pleased to announce more significant investments to modernise and expand our production sites. In 2025 we will open a new, highly efficient fermentation facility in Hamburg which will substantially expand our production capacity. This cutting-edge facility will improve our thermal energy usage, lower our emissions, reduce packaging use and cut water consumption, all whilst maintaining the quality you have come to expect from us.

This new fermentation facility will help us to reach our goal of operating a carbon-neutral site in Hamburg by 2030. It is a prime example of our commitment to decarbonisation and to delivering our high standards of service and product in a more sustainable way. For Ohly, this is not simply matter of compliance: it is integral to the way we do business.
